Welcome

Welcome to my website, where you can find out about my recent books on two most difficult subjects to discuss:  sex and death.

I am well aware that the word  ‘sex’ will attract some people with very different motives to those that prompted me to write the books, and to create this website.  If you are looking for titillation, this site is not for you.

Sex and death have much in common. They are either trivialised, sensationalised, or brushed under the carpet. What this website is about, then, is the real, lived and often difficult experience of  women, and very importantly, of husbands and partners too, who are struggling with the sexual and relationship changes that menopause brings. It’s the same with death and dying – a subject that many people are frightened of addressing.

I regularly blog about issues involving the menopause, death and dying, and musing about my own experience of life as an older woman.  Please do join the conversation.

Sex, Meaning and the Menopause, published June 2011.
A clearly-written and positive look at what happens as we get older. Everything seems to be described as ‘inspirational’ these days – but this is the genuine article. Highly recommended.’ Sue McGee,

Will YOUR marriage survive the menopause?  The Daily Mail, 21st, October, 2011

The D-Word:Talking about Dying, published Jan 2010.
Excellent book, highly recommended. I was expecting a book on how to grieve but instead, it gave me something much more profound – how to talk about dying, how to discuss death with close relatives and friends approaching this and not feel guilty about it.  Kathryn Colas, Simply Hormones

Woman’s Hour:  Talking about dying with Jane Garvy, Tuesday, 28 June 2011
