Sue Brayne (“we”, “us”, or “our”) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting it. This policy explains how we collect, use, share, and safeguard your information when you visit https://suebrayne.co.uk (the “Site”).

Information we collect
- Information you give us. Your name and email address when you sign up to our newsletter, and any details you provide when you contact us directly.
- Analytics data. If you consent to analytics cookies, Google Analytics collects information about how you use the Site, such as the pages you visit, how long you spend on them, how far down a page you scroll, your approximate location, and the type of device and browser you are using.
- Technical data. Like most websites, our hosting provider automatically records basic technical information when a page is requested, such as your IP address, browser type, and the time of the request. These server logs exist for security and troubleshooting, are kept for a limited period, and are not used by us to identify individual visitors.
Our lawful basis for using your information
- Consent for sending you our newsletter and for setting analytics cookies. You can withdraw your consent at any time.
- Legitimate interests for responding to enquiries, keeping the Site secure and free from spam, and the basic technical operation of the Site.
How we use your information
- To respond to enquiries you send us.
- To send you our newsletter, where you have asked us to.
- To protect our forms from spam and abuse.
- To understand how visitors use the Site and improve it, only with your consent.
We do not use your information to make automated decisions or to build a profile of you.
How enquiries reach us
When you send us a message through the Site, it is delivered to us by email over an encrypted connection, using Brevo as the transactional email service. Brevo is used purely to transmit the message and does not use your details for its own purposes.
No copy of your message is kept on this website. The Site does not store form submissions in a database or in any email log.
Brevo keeps a record of the fact that an email was sent, including the address it was sent to, the subject line, and the time it was sent. This is retained for one month, which is the minimum period Brevo requires in order to monitor for spam and maintain sending reliability, after which it is deleted automatically. Brevo is configured not to store a copy of the message content itself.

Newsletter
We use EmailOctopus to manage and send our newsletter. When you subscribe, your name and email address are stored by EmailOctopus, along with basic information about whether our emails were opened or links clicked. We keep this for as long as you remain subscribed.
The signup form is provided by EmailOctopus and is only loaded if you choose to open it. Nothing relating to the form is loaded, and no information is sent to EmailOctopus or Google, unless you open it.
When you do open the form, EmailOctopus uses Google reCAPTCHA to check that it is being completed by a person rather than an automated system. At that point Google receives your IP address and information about how you interact with the form, and may store information on your device as part of that check.
You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the foot of any newsletter email. You can also ask us to delete your record entirely by contacting us.

Embedded video and audio
Some pages on this Site contain videos hosted by YouTube and podcast episodes hosted by Buzzsprout, embedded so that you can watch or listen without leaving the Site.
Videos are embedded using YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com), which means YouTube does not place advertising or tracking cookies on your device simply because you have loaded the page. Because the player is loaded from Google’s servers, Google will receive your IP address and basic technical information about your device whenever a page containing a video is displayed. If you choose to play a video, YouTube may then store information on your device and collect data about your viewing, in the same way as if you were watching on the YouTube website. If you are signed in to a Google account, that activity may be associated with your account.
The podcast player is provided by Buzzsprout. When a page containing the player is displayed, Buzzsprout receives your IP address and stores a small amount of information in your browser relating to the player itself. If you choose to play an episode, Buzzsprout also sets a session cookie which is removed when you close your browser. This information is held under Buzzsprout’s own domain and is not accessible to us.
Neither YouTube nor Buzzsprout is used by us to track you, and we receive no personal information from either. This processing is carried out by Google and Buzzsprout and is outside our control. You can read their privacy policies at policies.google.com/privacy and buzzsprout.com/privacy.
How long we keep your information
- Enquiries. Held in our email inbox for as long as is reasonably necessary to respond to and resolve your enquiry, then deleted.
- Newsletter subscriptions. Held by EmailOctopus for as long as you remain subscribed.
- Analytics data. Individual event data is deleted by Google after 2 months. Visitor-level records are deleted after 14 months from your most recent visit.
- Email delivery records. Held by Brevo for one month.
Sharing of your information
We do not sell or rent your personal data. We share it only in these limited situations:
- Service providers. With trusted third parties who process data on our behalf, namely EmailOctopus (newsletter), Brevo (email delivery), and Google (website analytics and form spam protection).
- By law or to protect rights. Where required to comply with a legal obligation, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of ourselves or others.
International transfers
Some of the services we use are provided by companies based outside the UK, including Google in the United States. Where your data is transferred outside the UK, it is protected by safeguards approved for this purpose, such as the UK extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the International Data Transfer Addendum to the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.
Donations
If you choose to donate, our donate button takes you to PayPal. The payment itself is handled entirely by PayPal on their own website and under their own privacy policy. We never see or store your card details. PayPal will tell us the name and email address associated with a donation so that we can acknowledge it, and we keep this only for our own financial records.
Cookies and local storage
Cookies are small files placed on your device by a website. Some are needed for a site to work at all. Others, such as those used for analytics, are optional and require your consent.
Strictly necessary cookies. These are set automatically because the Site cannot function properly without them. They do not track you across websites, and under the UK Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) they do not require consent. They record your cookie choices, maintain your browsing session, and allow pages to be served from our cache so the Site loads quickly.
Analytics cookies. With your consent, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use the Site. These cookies are blocked until you accept them, and no analytics cookies are placed before then. If you decline, Google still receives a basic signal that a page was viewed. This signal contains no identifier that persists between visits, and stores nothing on your device.
Changing your mind. You can accept or decline analytics cookies when you first visit the Site. You can change your decision at any time using the Cookie Settings button at the foot of every page, which reopens the choice. If you decline after having previously accepted, Google Analytics stops identifying you immediately, though any analytics cookies already stored may remain on your device until they expire or you clear them through your browser settings.
Local storage. Some features of the Site, such as popups and the podcast player, store a small amount of information in your browser, for example to remember whether a popup has already been shown to you. This information stays on your device, is not sent to us, and cannot be used to identify you.
